Not sure Digby's sending off materially affected the decision to sack Bonner. Do we really think we could have gone on and got an equaliser? We'll never know I guess. I can't see his inclusion on Tuesday would have really affected the outcome that day, which PB obviously saw as the final chance to turn things around, so while it won't have helped the team, not sure it actually affected the decision. Never mind just an equaliser, the game being "there for the taking" suggests they think we'd have gone on to win with Digby on the pitch.

I'm sure Digby feels a little sick., A huge reason why he thought 'the grass isn't always greener elsewhere' in the summer would've been the manager I should think. You could tell he thought highly of Bonnsai.
He's got nothing to feel guilty about though. He's been a key part of a mostly happy and successful Bonnera. If I'm pointing fingers then he's one of the last I point towards.

Quite, it's the complete uncharacteristicness of it that makes it a bit odd.
Would love to know what caused that reaction, I've never seen a more intentional and obvious yellow that didn't involve Fernandinho.

I do think that Diggers being sent off last weekend, and the manner of the red card, probably helped to make minds up from an overall perspective when it came to Bonz being sacked. As a decision maker in any situation you tend to look at all relevant matters, and to see an experienced player get a second yellow for dissent when having just been correctly booked for an obvious foul is as clear a sign of frustration as you can have. Particularly when that frustration comes from a highly experienced former Captain who has literally run through brick walls for us.
FWIW, with Diggers on the pitch and the changes which had been made, we'd got a goal back and we were well on top. We'd started pressing properly, chances were coming regularly and I'm fairly certain in my own mind we'd have equalised - had we done so we'd quite possibly have gone on to win.

Hah, beat me to it.
Anyway, yeah frustration was clear but whether that's at himself, his manager, the tactics, his team mates, something else, or a combination of all I wouldn't know. Andrew

That was our first red card in a long time as well wasn't it?
Sure Diggers will regret it, but in a weird way it was nice to see a bit of passion and fight on the pitch for once!

Since Adam May, I think. Jones was sent off after that but had it rescinded.
It's an outstanding disciplinary record.

We only managed to salvage a point (or three) in around 3 out of the 30+ games where we have gone behind in the last couple of years, so not convinced we would have got an equalizer let alone won.

I hope PD takes a long hard look at himself. If he had not been a complete and utter box of tools, the match at Northampton would have been there for the taking. Different result. No Mark Bonner sacking. Maybe one for the sliding doors moments thread. You could also argue that the starting 11 against FGR last season are to blame. If they had not won, we would have been relegated, Barry said that Bonner would not be sacked if we had gone down and we would have probably be enjoying an improved season (result wise) in league 2. Result: No Bonner sacking Seems a bit harsh blaming the one player that always gives 100 % to the cause

Andrew There was a Sam Smith red (2 yellows) against Portsmouth at home in the 21/22 season when we drew 0 0. Can’t remember if that was before or after the May one but it meant Smith was suspended for Newcastle.

On the other hand he did literally stick his head in where it hurts a few games ago.
