So, Ben Stokes is next to hold the poisoned chalice that is the captain's armband. What do we think? Only real choice or a great choice?
Personally, I think it's the former, more than ever he needs to.manage his own workload, otherwise we risk burning him out.

It’s a risk but probably the only realistic choice. The only other would’ve been Broad but how long will he be around for? No one else has really nailed on a starting place or has the experience or Captain experience to lead the team.
Best of luck to Ben. I hope he manages his own workload as appropriate especially with his bowling. What an absolute sack of sh*t the test team has become. It makes me so angry as it was a deliberate strategy from the ECB to prioritise the white ball game. What are peoples’ views on the Rob Key appointment?

I was not in favour of Stokes because of the added demands especially after the way he sort of staggered back half-ready into the Ashes. I thought then that his mentality wasn't right for test match batting.
Now he's been chosen I'm slightly more positive. It helps hopefully that he begins at home where we may not win things but some players should aquit themselves slightly better in favourable conditions but tough games especially given that we've moved backwards as other sides have improved.
I quite like the cut of Rob Key's jib especially compared to Ashley Giles.

Yep, agreed. Can understand why but think it's a risk. This is a man who took himself out of the limelight due to stress / mental well-being issues: so let's give him the ultimate stress and limelight!
He's also prone to the odd (ie more or less constant) injury issue. I suspect he'll have to bowl a hell of a lot less, if he's the maintain fitness - but will he be able to? It might be why he wants the old boys back.
I wish him all the best and truly hope he has more tactical nous than his predecessor.
Bit of a hobson's choice probably. I was hoping that Mr. Key et al would be a little more creative and, if need be, select a passable player (quality wise) who's proven at captaincy. I almost feel that, given the general quality available, compromising on the 'must be a certain pick' for a quality captain would be worth it.
Hope it works out.

Aside from Root, who else is a starter? Broad but knocking on a bit, Anderson, same, possibly Woakes. Thats it! I like Key and think he will do well.

I meant his mentality during the last Ashes series. When we needed our experienced players to come in and settle nerves or manage the game I felt he looked at sea like everyone else. But yes he has shown in general that he has the mentality and skill to bat well in all forms.

Who would stand out there? Vince? I think that was part of the problem. There’s no one that jumps out. Stokes did the job briefly when the West Indies toured during COVID, he’s still just about got age on his side and is a near-guaranteed starter even if it’s just with the bat. I hope we see some positive results this summer but I fear the whole rebuilding job could take years. It’s the footballing equivalent of Manchester United’s plight. The whole structure needs to change.

Maybe then get Eoin Morgan in, yes he is a white ball player but can bat, and is a damn fine captain, get him in to steady things.

What a win vs the Indians today. An absolute thrashing and through to the final. Excellent lads!

Just need to back it up in the final on Sunday - although the weather isn't looking too promising, which will be a shame!

I fancied India but it was a surprisingly chilled chase, very good, nice to see India beaten. Quite like Pak, hopefully weather doesn't intervene in final too much.

India really threw in the towel didn't they. The lack of effort in the field was shocking, I wouldn't want their players in the trenches beside me in a fight!

I fear the lure of a brown paper envelope stuffed full of £50 notes may have caught their attention. Betting scandal anyone?

I don't think the Indian cricket XI are short of any cash. Not sure why you'd insinuate they'd be bought.
