Surely Cambridge University football club is the oldest in Cambridge, given they're the oldest in the world...

Sorry to clarify, I was ignoring student football colleges playing colleges. Cam Univ Press was the first club in the town/city of Cambridge made up of local guys to be members of the Cambs FA back in the 19th century. Take your point though. You're not wrong but I'm town not gown sort of person.

16 years ago today we drew 1-1 at Wrexham to go top of the Conference. Admittedly it was a Friday and the rest of the league played next day. I was at Addenbrookes - having flatly refused to go to Harlow - watching my daughter (finally) get born. Happy days/

I was there and was involved in my first ever pitch invasion when Terry Eades equalised.

As was I. IIRC Eades was pushed into action as an emergency striker.

Quite the event, one of those quiz question answers - who were the first team to host a home match on a Sunday?
How times have changed, admission by programme because they weren't allowed to charge admission on a Sunday. Bumper crowd despite the hardship of the 3 day week, in the days when there really was 'magic' around the FA Cup!

Those were the days. 3 day week, rail strikes, OPEC and rationing at the pump and so many other things. The ban on use of floodlight to conserve electricity supply led to the morning kick off. Also had to buy a match program for entry to get over some silly events rules. Great match.
We played the second replay at a neutral ground. That was back when a draw meant something and in a very British way could only be settled be multiple replays.
Those Oldham matches were huge at the time. After the draw at the Abbey we knew we would play Burnley in the 4th round if we could beat Oldham. Oldham were pretty much the best team in the 3rd division at the time and we were struggling to stay up in our first ever season in the 3rd tier. We got relegated that season but would have been awesome to have played Burnley in the FA cup 4th round. Would have been our biggest ever match by far had we beaten Oldham. Burnley I think took the 1st division title that season so that is similar to drawing Man City now.

Burnley won the 2nd tier that year, no?
