In the mid-2000s, you were probably our (my pals and I) favourite fan, Andrew. We admired your occasionally angry witticisms from mid-Habbin. Along with a girl of a similar age to us who featured prominently in a pic Andrea used to use quite often on the old site. We couldn't believe there was a girl who shared our interest.

There's also some of the guys from Mallory Knox who are very vocal in their support. I think it's mainly Sam who's a Cambridge fan the others I think came along a few times for the big away days (I imagine for a few beers). You've also got Chesnoid gaming who is a minor celeb in youtube circles (the much younger crowd)

Pretty much everyone mentioned so far is in the book. There are also a few journalists of some standing who support the U’s, though I suspect they’d shy away from any suggestion that they are ‘famous’.

Do we include Jamie Oliver in this? I know he's never been to a game and I don't think there's any evidence he's ever supported us but it was a popular rumour back in the conference days Solid references in these links: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2789165.stm"But as a football fan, Jamie was clearly in a lower league. He confessed that he had not managed to get to a Cambridge match for at least 10 years [article from 2003], blaming the cooking industry." www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2375131/Jamie-Oliver-kicks-6m-food-revolution-Manchester-City.html"Oliver is a Cambridge United fan by heart, said he had experience of bad matchday food." I suspect there are North Essex U's of the right vintage on here who might have more info. I can now see why some were nonplussed about improving the food offerings then. All food should return to being inedible, just in case it tempts this absolute knob back in any capacity.

Another interesting journalist U, at least in his younger days when I was at school with him, is Matt Dickinson who is the Times Chief Sports Reporter. He was the one who broke the Eileen Drewery/Glenn Hoddle story which led to Hoddle’s departure as England manager. He now seems to mainly watch QPR by all accounts but had a season ticket at United way back when and travelled to away games regularly too.

Given some of the most well known people in the world and history have links to our area, we have disappointingly few famous football fans.
Got it on good authority that Stephen Hawking didn’t like football very much and that the one time he was going to come to a game a member of staff didn’t know who he was when the feelers were put out about accommodating him, he was a bit upset about it and that was it.

Couple of the excellent Black Country, New Road are fans, even seen one wearing a Cambridge shirt on stage at an early gig. Debut album was Mercury Prize nominated and last album went to no.4 in the charts but still upcoming in the grand scheme of things, not sure even the band themselves would consider themselves ‘famous fans’.

Neil Robertson is a bit of a 2CW who follows Chelsea and us.

Neil Robertson was tweeting about us quite a bit recently, even after the win at Wigan when he’d just finished or was in the middle of his first round game at the World Championships. Does he still live in Cambridge? Some time ago I played a frame against him (pool rather than snooker) at Frames, before he became famous! He was far, far too good for me and I didn’t pot a ball!

Don't feel too bad about that one.... he only became world champion....
