Good to hear on the Radio just now Mark Saggers reconfirming, without any hesitation his support for Cambridge United when asked which team he supports.
(Apologies if everyone knew this, and I did know that years ago he commentated on Cambridge matches for BBC Radio Cambridgeshire but wasn't sure if he was a supporter or not.)
Does he ever go to Cambridge matches or is he too busy?
Also got me thinking, there cant be many Clubs at our level with football commentator supporters on National radio, with Dion, Saggers & Rushden.

I thought you had a copy of 100 Things I Love About Cambridge United? Saggers is proudly featured.

Walked back alongside him to the tube station post Brentford once. A very wet evening iirc. Saggers = Another member of the Old Persean mafia. You don't hear about the Leys Syndicate do you?

The Bruce-Ball brothers went to the Leys and would make good members of a firm by name but I don't think they are United fans. So in that case I can't think of well known Old Leysian U's.

There are quite a few of us Dylan! You are also right about The Leys, I’d always assumed it was because most Perseans were Cambridge people whereas the Leys was predominantly a boarding school with boys drawn from all over the place so less natural affinity with United. Otherwise they were just inferior.

Makes sense Jerry. I wonder which non-toff school in Cambridge had/has the highest proportion of U's?
I know the most from Parkside...

Do we include Jamie Oliver in this? I know he's never been to a game and I don't think there's any evidence he's ever supported us but it was a popular rumour back in the conference days

I associate Chesterton most with CUFC fans. I think Jamie Oliver went to Newport Free Grammar School, who I assumed were all farmers. We used to play hockey against them.

The only two I would add are commentator Gary Newbon and that bloke from Groove Armada (who's so famous I can't remember his name).

He confessed that he had not managed to get to a Cambridge match for at least 10 years [article from 2003], blaming the cooking industry." www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2375131/Jamie-Oliver-kicks-6m-food-revolution-Manchester-City.html"Oliver is a Cambridge United fan by heart, said he had experience of bad matchday food." I suspect there are North Essex U's of the right vintage on here who might have more info.

There's also some of the guys from Mallory Knox who are very vocal in their support.

I thought you had a copy of 100 Things I Love About Cambridge United? Saggers is proudly featured. I do and it’s a good book, but I don’t remember the one from Saggers! I was about to make the comment about me getting old and not remembering things so well now, when I thought I would check what he said, but… I can’t remember where I put the book! (Next thing is I will be forgetting I ever had the book and ordering another!!)

I'm super famous.
I was interviewed on Q103 once. Tv-am came to my school for some reason and you could hear my voice in the background. I was also an extra in a Columbian telenovella.
