Another defeat and I think Bonner needs to ask himself some serious questions:
- I liked 3 at the back but why Williams - Rossi or Jubs would have been the obvious choice, with George at RWB - Tracey was never going to ve a wing back, looks so short on form and confidence - Taylor looks like a mistake waiting to happen, did some good things but was close to a couple more errors - Why do people like Taylor make errors or have average games and not get dropped, but Rossi makes 1 mistake and is dropped, or Lankaster not given a fair run in the team? - Why are doing much the same week in week out and not changing things up top? If its not working, and its not, change it - we have Okinhebire and Janneh
People will say yes but its Derby, Weds & Ipswich? Well I am sure we created more chances last year against Sunderland, Weds and Ipswich/Rotherham
We are missing a classy creative footballer, maybe we should have kept Wes in some part, or at least have Lankaster and build around him. Missed a trick by not getting a loan signing or two in.
Simper deserves a run rather than be dropped when May is back.
Have been critical (hugely) of Brophy but he was excellent today, clear MoM, and I think LWB is his ideal position.

Take the rose tinted specs off. Can anyone honestly say that the quality of football/ entertainment/tactics in the last three home games has been better than Derry/ Calderwood ball? Are you suggesting that the last three home games is comparable as a period to the three desert years of Derry-Dunne-Calderwood? Puking God. You need to calm down with an eggnog, bloke.

An Owl in Peace A lot of kind & positive words about Barry Bannan, thanks for that, he is undoubtedly our best player. However, by his standards he had a mediocre game yesterday because he was out on the wing too much. When he is in the middle of the pitch or roaming at will he can totally dominate games. Wednesday did just enough to win and keep another clean sheet. Reasonably tidy and physical at the back and a couple of nice touches from Gregory upfront, but otherwise a bit scrappy. Good luck for the rest of the season and your trip to Hillsborough can only be better than last season. and BTW Bannan earns nothing like £27K per week, it's amazing how many forums mention his fictional wages

Palmer had a tidy game at right back.
Now, Owl: where's the band gone? I was looking forward to clapping along to 'Mack the Knife.' Has Bernie Clifton hung up his trombone?

I would imagine that Paul Barry is delighted with the progress we have made under Bonner in the last few years and is more than happy to defer first team selection to him. We have to stop living in the past! I’m sure that Barry is far from delighted right now. You're right, we should live in the now. We're closer to 10th in League 1 than we are to the 21st, despite an awful run of form. We have a near-universally regarded young manager who would rather nurse Cambridge through a tough patch than bump up his wages and profile in the Championship. We own our stadium. Barry himself seems to be doing his best to ensure that's never at risk again. We are also, by ground size, attendance, finances etc, in the bottom quarter of the division. A small fish in a big pond. Never mind that Ipswich and Wednesday have had historic success we could only dream of, _today_ they are still at least five times bigger than we are. Of course, history provides us context, and you ignore it at your peril.

Has Bernie Clifton hung up his trombone? the band are still at H'boro but are not allowed into many away grounds anymore. Palmer is having a great season, not only in defence he is also scoring goals. He is a life long Owl coming up through the academy. During the close season he did a 10K run every day for a month, for charity, and is looking great for it. The fans would like the whole squad to do it next close season

Sheffield were not great on Saturday but they didn’t need to be. But as you might expect they had more than enough quality to beat us fairly comfortably.

Tough to say really, given they were ahead with their first attack after 6 minutes. They didn't really need to do much after that point as it put the impetus on us to try to dictate the game.
As you say, they didn't look anything special (as with Derby), but if they'd needed to up their game then they almost certainly had the quality to do it. Or maybe it was a genuine off-day for them and a real chance missed to add a point or 3 on the board if we'd been at our best (as with Derby).

I was pretty concerned going into the game but left considerably more positive than I arrived, despite the result. Given the last few weeks, the 4-2-3-1 and sitting off teams was really becoming stale and I think fans had a right to be concerned when we were not close to getting points with this tactic. As a sometimes Happy Clapper, I was getting concerned about the insistence on a style that hasn't been working over the last few weeks. We cannot argue that Bonner hasn't taken note and tried something different and we cant argue the players did not give it their all.
Watching us actually control large parts of the game was a much more enjoyable watch and I did actually feel we were in the game, where the later parts of Derby and Barnsley I did not. I felt we kept Bannon very quiet, unlike last season. Lets not forget last time we played them they tonked us 6-0 and they could have scored 10 on that day.
Simper looked good, lost the ball 3-4 times (including first goal) but other than that offered a really positive contribution and gave us something different. Contrasted well with Digby and a nice partnership looked to be forming.
Brophy was excellent, real stand out.
Save for the error, I actually thought Taylor played well. I was very surprised to see all of the comments around his performance. Not sure what happened with the second goal but that game could easily have been a 1-1 and we would all have been delighted.
Okenabirhie and Lankester both looked sharp when they came on, great to see Worman back in the fold.
Seeing us control the midfield for good chunks of the game was an up turn in performance for me, if not the result. and I hope gives us confidence going into the Port Vale game. I refuse to get drawn into doom and gloom just yet. Lose the next 3 and that would be entirely different, 4 points and we are probably about par for pre-season expectations.
Only down side was home attendance dropping, the perhaps pours a little cold water on my views of not giving South Habbin to away fans, albeit for just one game. I would think Ipswich and Pish will bring more home fans out and hopefully we will not go into these games on such a poor run. As much cold water as the sprinkler that went off at half time and completely soaked me to the bone whilst I was sitting in the family stand. I hope this is a one off going into the colder months or I will need to have a moan at the club! Luckily my little lads were not next to me this weekend as we may have needed to go home if they had been. If anybody from club reading, please don't fire sprinklers into front few seats in Family stand!!

Just for perspective, 13 years ago today we lost 3-0 at Hayes & Yeading in front of 744 fans. Yes this Saturday was crap but we’ve come a long way.
