Good stuff. And good timing. The board needed to go public in backing Bonner and this is a pretty strong statement.
My goodness - there really is money being pumped into the club now. And most probably a much higher wage bill from the Jan transfers. And not Hollywood-vanity-project money either, from a lifelong fan and his associates.
This is still a great time to be a U, even if the first team haven't got the memo yet.

The dreaded vote of confidence, only it actually reads like a vote of confidence?

Disappointed with this. I was expecting him to apologise for the mistakes made in loaning players out…😁

I am really pleased Paul has come out and sent this message. It is exactly what we need to hear, whether you support the head coach or not, this tells me that Mark is here to stay regardless of whether we stay in this league or get relegated.
I support the steady progress of this club with Mark as the coach and yes sometimes we all get emotional as we all want our great team to win, but like he said - win or lose united in endeavour!!
Here's to a fighting finish to the end of the season!

Mark has often talked about the journey the club is on, it appears clear from the statement that PB sees MB as the captain of his ship and he is backing him for the long term.
Bravo, there will be big waves to negotiate over the coming weeks, but I do believe that MB will come out of this a better coach and the club will benefit in the long run, whether we play in League 1 or League 2 next season.

What’s in it for an investor to put £2.5m into a training ground? I can imagine there’s a potential (albeit risky) return by putting money into the ground or the playing squad, but I can see how that would work for a training ground. This isn’t meant to sound cynical, just trying to understand how the finances of this will work. If it’s purely for footballing reasons and with no expected return, then that’s a quite incredible gesture by Paul Barry and the other directors.

I’m pretty sure that the answer to this is in the realms of US tax laws and offsetting investments elsewhere etc

Barry himself is quick to turn away from the term "invest" in the context of a financial return for individual investors, and this was forefront in his thinking when bringing the newer boardmembers in. Did you catch his conversation on Under The Abbey Stand? Quite illuminating.

PB has been through a lot in the past year and he’s continued to support us during that time. He’s a remarkable man and class runs through him.
Kudos to him for delivering the message ahead of such a big week for the clubs sides - mens, womens and youth.

I think it's a good message to not only affirm Marks position, but also to gently remind people that they're spending a hell of a lot of their own money to make sure the club has an infrastructure to build on and to give us facilities befitting of our status, which then explains why we're not the most competitive in the transfer market.

Strange analogy but think of the investment in the training ground as you would think of investing in tyres for your car. If you spend £000's on a car then don't save on the tyres - they are a key part of the package. Similarly, if you spend £000's on players/stadium etc, you have to have facilities to bring the best from them. The training ground development is a structural and incredibly necessary use of investment funds.
The message was great. I first thought it was the dreaded 'vote of confidence' but actually it is a lot more than that, and I do feel was really necessary. I think we'd have seen exactly the same message irrespective of Saturday's result. Now that any uncertainty has been cleared up, Paul is quite right, we need to face the challenges of the rest of this season together, no matter the outcome.
