Was surprised that Okedina started ahead of Morrison last night, the fact he was absent today would indicate he’s picked up an injury of some sort. Hoddle has been missing for a few weeks now, hopefully we will get answers when Monk does his post match.

How was Sheep Head received by his adoring fans?

It just shows the step-up from youth football to league football. Colchester are a fairly limited League Two team and this has been men against boys. In fairness, Colchester look to have made some decent signings this summer and will expect significant improvement in the league this coming season. You don't often see Danny Cowley sides struggling. We're just going through what we've experienced so many times before, a small squad, with less summer transfer window activity than anticipated and injuries biting already. Yeah, I wasn't trying to be deliberately disrespectful of them, I'm sure they will do fine, not that I'm too worried! It was more a comment based on people saying 'the kids couldn't do any worse' when we have had a bad run of form over the past couple of seasons. Even the young players who I thought were relatively close to breaking through, like McConnell and Njoku, looked miles off Colchester's level. I wouldn't read too much in to such a game, it's glorified training and Monk clearly wanted close to his strongest team out last night. It just highlights what we know, l that we really lack strength in depth, especially with a few injuries.

Can only assume Morro is injured, so all of a sudden Okedina looks to be right back in first team contention.
Morro's 36, so can't rely on him to play regularly anymore.

How was Sheep Head received by his adoring fans? A few boos at the start, best off ignoring him as he clearly thrives on any attention, the sponge!

Hard to think that Smith or Richards will be ready for next week but if Digby is ruled out then you’d think Smith will probably be needed for at least an hour.
Big week coming up off the pitch. The need for reinforcements was obvious before the current mini injury crisis, it’s quite urgent now. Disappointing that we look like we’re going to start the season with a few injured and possibly a couple starting who are undercooked.

How was Sheep Head received by his adoring fans? Actually very well. Lyle went off at half time and spent the second half chatting to our stewards and also to our fans, happily giving out hugs and selfies. No animosity from either side whatsoever.

Don't quite remember as many injuries as this in a pre-season in recent memory. Don't see much business being done in the coming week. Maybe a couple of Prem/Champ youngsters on loan, but I think we'll basically be going in to the season with what we have, injury list and all.....

Is The Monk Way™️ breaking our more fragile players? A lot of emphasis has been on fitness and keeping on the front foot for long periods. Going from a team who spent a large part of 3 seasons being a counter attacking team, to possession based and continued pressing is a big change.

A timely reminder that this level is hard for a club our size and current infrastructure. Even what felt like a bad season last season was a good result. A lot of the similar sized clubs and smaller clubs haven't been so good so are no longer here and have been replaced by tougher challenges you feel. Bonner, Monk and the other bloke have done well to get us and keep us here and we are going to have to be on it to continue or (hopefully) build upon that.

I've long subscribed to the school of thought that "pre-season isn't about the results" but results like that do test your faith in the short term, don't they? I'm sure it will all be forgotten in a couple of weeks if we perform well, and used to pillory our next scapegoat if we don't.
