I'm not trying to talk anyone down. Yes JS has played more than WM,but with the same senirio getting his chance when the first choice is injured. As soon as the first choice is ok then out the team. I don't think there will be much between them. That's not what happened though. Stevens was number one for a good chunk and then got ill at Oxford. Then moved to Vale was number one and got dropped for the previous number one at Port Vale. So he had covid and then glandular fever. Potential as a youngster ( prem clubs looking at him), wasn't able to kick on due to ilness and lost being the number 1. Oxfords consideration was that with development and improvement he could be a very good div 1 keeper ( and poss higher) but if he has reached his peak may struggle to be a consistent number 1 in league 2.

He seems like quite a sweet lad. I enjoyed listening to that.
I liked hearing that he got voice notes welcoming him to the club from Morro and Digby when he joined. Also from Dion saying that if he ever needed any advice he could call him.
Quite interesting to hear he had an offer from a big premier club to be a training keeper. Would have been a comfortable and well paid gig I suspect so credit to him for turning it down.
Also liked hearing him talk about how excited everyone was when telling him about the Peterboro game last year. That's cute.

Yeah a good listen and lot's of nice positives as you've listed above. A couple of negatives I took from it as per below.
He said he's an overthinker - this is a concern given his drop in form, losing his place at Port Vale. Glandular fever - awful for anyone to have and some sport stars have had to retire from it. Crowds. He had his best ever season when it was covid and no-one or hardly anyone in the crowds. He talks a lot about crowds, nerves and playing in front of them.
He doesn't strike me as a confident lad from that interview but let's hope he can put all that behind him and be a success.

Lacking confidence, nervous, he could be the new 'dancing Shaun'. Never mind Mannions waiting....and waiting.

I picked up on that, but he also mentioned 'keeping 8 clean sheets in 27 games' (I'm paraphrasing) which sounded like a guy confident about himself and his achievements at the moment.
Also talked about how good he feels and how he prepared for the season better than he has before. 'Overthinking' can be a negative thing and lead to a mental health spiral but it can also manifest as self awareness and always wanting to challeng and push oneself. That's where I felt he is with himself right now anyway.
He does seem as though he had a confidence wobble at some point though I'd agree. Most footballers have I'd guess...it's not always easy to remember our part in that sometimes.

An excellent and really insightful listen.
Jack sounds like a really grounded and honest young chap.

Love that Agent Norris is on that list. He knows when it's important to make saves and when to let them in.

Love that Stevens is a point and a half ahead of him. Manion had a hard time against Barnsley and may have put out the amber carpet for Jack's return.

I know it’s only 16 games into the season and he’s played in about 13 but I’ve been so impressed by Stevens overall so far. A fantastic crucial save tonight with his feet and his kicking and distribution is head and shoulders above Mannion and Mitov’s.
Maybe his seemingly lack of height for a keeper means he will occasionally get beaten by the type of goal Cheltenham scored but his shot stopping from one on ones is excellent and he caught every cross he came for tonight.
Can see why he was highly rated early on at Oxford before his illness and really glad he’s our player.
Of course he will now drop one right at Clark-Harris’ feet a yard out in a couple of weeks now I’ve praised him so much .

Six clean sheets in 11 games is very impressive indeed. He seems like a very calm influence at the back.

I'm probably wrong (although I can't be too far off) but I think he's pulled off a one-on-one save in every game he's played.

He's been brilliant. A big upgrade on Mitov. Feel sorry for Mannion but Stevens has absolutely smashed it.
