Bonner said the other day that Janneh's not hit the levels since he returned from injury that he was at the start of the season. People can say what they want about Kaikai's impact on games so far, but he at least hasn't put in a car crash of a 45 minutes that that was. Been the exception rather than the norm this season from Janneh though so I'm sure he'll be fine once he finds his rhythm again. He looks quite a different player in general – much better off the ball & seems to really understand his role in our set-up in a way he didn't seem to last year. From what I saw in his cameo against Pompey, he was very much in 'team mode', chasing back, supporting Andrew - although even then he did make one or two very inadvisable passes. Seems the message is getting through, he just needs to refine his style!

Andrew must have severe Brophy envy, with a succession of not very defensive minded right wingers sat in front of him while Lennett gets babysat by an inverted converted left back. Janneh was indeed particularly shocking last night. Didn’t even notice the horlicks he made of the rebound from Rennett’s header, with Fej ready for a tap in had he squared it rather instead of 50p-heading it into touch. I was critical of Janneh on the MB last night after his 1st half but I don't agree with your comments about a tap in for Fej. Yes, the header was a mess but there was not an easy option to score even if he found his man as there seemed to be plenty of defensive cover

Funny old game - I find Andrew to consistently be one of the most frustrating players to watch in our side. I feel like he moves the ball too slow, has yet to give us a spell from his wand of a left foot and generally makes too many mistakes for a full back of his experience + lack of attacking contribution.
I'm not particularly confident in that opinion and think I have got it 'in my head' so I notice every mistake more than I would any other player but if we'd got someone to swap him out for I think I'd make that decision for the Pish game

No he's definitely been underwhelming. He has moments where you see the player we thought we'd signed, but he's quite inconsistent even within a game & the amount of unforced errors he makes with his passing is maddening. He's at his best when he's overlapping the winger & putting a cross in on the run – we just don't get to see him do that all that often for one reason or another (not reasons specifically to do with him, either).
He's not been a flop by any stretch & there's obviously still plenty of time for him to come good, but I was quite excited by his signing & he's not impressed me very much so far.

We are currently discussing a player who has played every single game and nearly every minute in the best defence in the football league

You're right, no point discussing his performances.
He's looked a bog-standard player so far – done some good things, done some bad, not really stood out in any way whatsoever. Which obviously is fine, but I'd hoped we might get a bit more than that given he was someone we'd clearly really wanted and was our first-choice target for that position.

Denton's a big boy and can speak for himself, but I don't think that's what he was getting at. Each of the back four have been routinely called out for subpar performances, Andrew more than most. If he was doing as badly as we seem to suggest after every game, we'd be in a markedly worse position. He has had a few wobbly games, for sure, but by and large he quietly does the job we've signed him for. Defending that flank. I suspect Bonner is very happy that he's got his man and he's performing as he is. Leave the heroics and the excitement that us fans crave to someone else.

Goes to show how awesome Rennett and Morrison are given we have the most clean sheets in the league despite a bog-standard left back and a clearly-a-winger liability at right-back

And nowhere have I said he's not done that. He's just not consistently met the standards I was hoping he would given his experience & quality & that we seemed to make his signing a priority, particularly as an attacking full-back. I didn't think that would be a particularly controversial, nor damning or unfair, statement.

Yes, I'll give you that, Jack was outstanding for us and was disappointing to lose him so soon, with no sell-on. Apart from Harrison though, left back has not been a position where we have been too strong over recent years. We haven't developed a LB from the Youth Team recently, have we?

I think if Ryan Bennet's header had gone in - as it so very almost did - against Wycombe, we'd be praising the delivery from Andrew.

It was a great ball that was unfortunate not to have ended as an assist, as has been the case a couple of times.
On the other hand, he's also been quite fortunate that some of his misplaced passes or being robbed of the ball in dangerous positions, or going total walkabout & seemingly choosing to shout at the ref instead of playing football against Portsmouth, haven't led to us conceding. There was also the own goal he scored which he & Stevens have to shoulder the blame for, as well as a part to play in two dreadful goals at Burton.
Swings and roundabouts, every player makes mistakes (he's far from the only member of the defence that has got away with a few ricks) and goes through dips in form. But his highs haven't been very high so far & I was just hoping for a bit more from him than we've seen.

I mean, he was out of contract so a sell-on was never an option. My biggest gripe with Andrew is how frequently he fails to stop crosses, followed by how often he gives the ball away with poor passes. But I can definitely see improvement.
