What's the profile we're looking for do we think? So far the likes of Ainsworth, Rowett, Wild, Harris, Rowley are all pretty similar aren't they..? and perhaps not too dissimilar from what Bonbon had done/was trying to do. Yeah wondering this myself. I think we're probably going to want to recruit to more of a "values" framework than any type of particular tactical or style one. You'd think, given our aim as a club to become sustainable, that someone with a strong track record in developing and blooding youth players would be a crucial criterion for us. That brings the likes of Taylor & Holden into play. I agree with your last paragraph EG and that someone who can nurture the Lennett, McConnell, Yearn et al is crucial and to try and develop them as players we can ultimately then reap reward on. Like it or not, its what Pish have done for many years. my worry now is that we have a squad of experienced Pro's who need someone who can motivate, organise and produce results from them. It needs to be someone who can do both. I personally don't think someone from non league or no managerial experience is the right one for us at this stage of the journey however.

We could do with another mid-season pandemic reset...

Like it or not, its what Pish have done for many years. I will never, ever let this point pass without adding the caveat that they just buy in all their players rather than actually producing them. But otherwise yes.

If Steve Cotterill got the job I genuinely think I would find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon.

What's wrong with Cotteril?
If he flounced at Shrewsbury because he didn't like the budget I doubt he'd come here.
Andrew
Edit: he's not one I considered or want btw.

I presume the same as what's been aimed at Bonner: boring, defensive football, but from a boring, defensive man with an added garnish of stoppages & breaking up the game any which way possible.

I see Matty Taylor is on there. There would be some sort of closing of the Rotherham circle were he to get it. Seems a decent manager and decent enough guy as well.

Tommy Widdrington might be in frame? Not sure how good he is but he's doing well at Aldershot this year and was Kings Lynn before. God no. Twice I've witnessed his antics in the dugout when KL were playing at Farsley and he is a horrible man. Laughing at genuinely injured players, belittling part-time players for their achievements in the game and horrid treatment of officials that would make Steve Evans blush. That's one to avoid. Has Nathan Jones resurfaced yet?

My mate's dog's brother is a cabbie and he dropped Hervé Renard off about an hour ago.

Despite our league position and current stadium I think we are an above average attractive prospect for any new ambitious manager. The training ground is where the guy would spend 90% of their time and having shiny new facilities is a big pull factor. Plus we are well within commuting distance from North and East London. I would prefer a manager on his way up, even if they saw us just as another step on their personal career ladder. Bonner being with us 3.5 years is a freak amount of time for 90% of league clubs so would be prepared for a successful Cambridge manager to move on to their next step, like Michael Duff has done in the last 3 years or so. Whether we could afford to tempt someone already in a league job is another matter.
Ainsworth? First instincts say no thanks. As a person he seems a good guy but I don’t think i want us to be the new Wycombe. I think his time in the sun is done even though QPR were already a cowboy outfit, he did employ some strange methods (bringing in a guy to do a Haka type thing in a team meeting)
I think we will go down the route of previous L1 experience with maybe a sprinkle of Championship experience with aims to rebuild their career whilst still pretty young. A Matt Taylor or Leam Richardson. I hope we don’t go for a dinosaur.
Maybe we were already putting out feelers post Posh debacle with an eye on how we reacted after that game. And last night put a plan into action. I think we will know the name of the new guy soon after the cup game.

Before we appointed Bonner, we were rumoured to be interested in a youth coach at Brighton.
I was just curious if anyone recalled his name to see if he did become a manager anywhere?

I do wonder (as other posts have hinted at too) if we are perhaps a little further down the recruitment process than we have been told about (obviously!) and that there is a list doing the rounds between Board and Owners? The timing is really interesting. We had a right royal stuffing at Posh followed by an international break - two weeks to reflect and consider the target for two games we were expected to, and should have taken points from, and the same two weeks to think about options and make a few phone calls in the event things went awry. Which they did. And then, low and behold, by 1000 in the morning following last night's game, the formal announcement was made, complete with a carefully worded and decent statement about Mark's acheivements which I am not sure was written overnight. What do I know? Nothing, but I do suspect that there has been a plan of sorts in place for a little while.
The same timing is relevant when considering where we are in the season and given that the opening of the window is only a month from now. Sad though today has been, I'm glad the Board acted now to give sufficient time to get a new manager/HC in and give them time to watch a few games over Xmas and to work with what we have ahead of being able to make relevant decisions in January, budget permitting of course. I never understand clubs pulling the trigger in mid-January, but you can bet the same will happen in a few weeks from now somewhere else and that always strikes me as being a knee jerk reaction. This kind of feels... planned.
