When we went 1-0 up against Bolton I looked at the table and we were on 41 points.12 points from 14 points to hit the magic 50 point target was easy I thought. Then we lost, had Taylor red carded and out for 3 games and to top it all Harris left.Im now not at all sure that we will get to that target and survive.I have almost written the next 3 games off with zero points to be honest and us being sucked into the bottom 4.Cheer me up with your optimism please. As I am writing this,Cheltenham are winning 1-0.

I'm more confident about tomorrow, and about the future beyond, now than I was with Harris in charge.
He wasn't taking us anywhere and, whilst the future is less clear now, because we're fundamentally a well run club there is optimism to be found in our uncertainty.
Onwards, and UIE!

I feel happy, inspired and confident about our future.
Harris leaving feels like an opportunity to keep developing rather than something to lament. Our board is ambitious and committed to making their vision for the club happen in a sustainable way and I'm excited to see where that takes us.
I don't think I've felt as optimistic about the future of my club during my adult life as I have these last four years.

Not sure this constitutes optimism but even if we lost the next three, it’s unlikely we’d be in the bottom four.
If you want genuine optimism, we aren’t going down. We just aren’t. I’ve been known to be right about such things in the past.

And Russ better be prepared to do it all over again if we need it. I'm sure if it happens enough times the lucky pants would deserve an entry in a new book!

The one thing Harris has done for us is set the standard of manager that expected at Cambridge. We will be looking for a replacement that can get 1.35-1.50* points per game, on a six game rolling average, out of the squad. The board will be hiring with that in mind. This has been a slight on their dignity as much as ours. As for the players. They have benefitted from the coaching style of three different managers and can apply the best of that to the games ahead. Who knows when the next manager will sign up (come back off holiday, whatever) but that is more coaching with fresh insights. New manager bounces all the way.

It did include matches against several teams in absolutely dire form (2x Exeter, Fleetwood, Carlisle, Charlton), so I'm really not convinced Harris would have sustained that over a substantial period.

Quitting just at the start of a tougher run of games certainly helps artificially inflate his PPG.

How many points do we need and where are we getting them from? 12, which should be doable (in some combination) from the games against Northampton, Lincoln, Reading, Wycombe, Wigan, Charlton, Bristol & Port Vale – all midtable or below teams that we should at the very least be able to take a few wins and a few draws from. I'll throw Stevenage in too just because their form's pretty dodgy at the minute. Then there's a few other games against Bolton, Barnsley & Derby that who knows, maybe we'll nab a result in to be a bit more comfortable. If you forced me to guess those results I'd probably go: Stevenage (D) Northampton (L) Lincoln (D) Reading (W) Wycombe (W) Wigan (L) Charlton (W) Bristol (L) Vale (W) Which would see us safe, although probably not by more than 5 points max, and hopefully take the pressure off those last 2.

I wouldn't want us banking a on a win against Vale, considering that has the potential to be a winner takes all relegation match. We really have to beat Northampton at home in a couple of weeks, otherwise I can see our season really starting to unravel from there
