Starting to see some of that magic. Shame that the run to head the ball in wasn't marked and obstructed effectively.

Optimistic after last night?

Always. It's a choice. I still believe we'll stay up.
The season hasn't ended yet which means you get to chose your own adventure so I choose to be optimistic about it's outcome until all hope is sailed...plenty of time to be miserable if we actually get relegated.
Andrew.

Optimistic after last night? Not in the slightest. It’s really hard to see where the next goal is going to come from let alone points. Delighted to be proved wrong but blind belief in something that’s just not working won’t keep us up.

Nope, was confident we would stay up with Harris, but now alot of these players look to have checked out, some average/poor players now looking terrible, poison in the dressing room? Too many thinking about where they will be playing next year?

Yep, fully agree but they are still in the shop window so should be giving 100%+ for the cause....Monk must know that and if anyone is not pulling their weight then they're out of the side and a youngster is given the chance!

In the midst of a terrible Saturday there was one result which went under the radar! Exeter beating Burton! We are now in a ‘three horse race’. Discount Reading they’re flying! I would encourage everyone to look at all three’s remaining fixtures! If we can get our house in order we can do this!
IT’S NOT OVER!

I'm still optimistic and think it should be more likely we'll stay up than not given our points cushion. That's not to say it'll be easy if course but we don't need to do *too* much...I genuinely think we'll have to be cataclysmic not to stay up (which is admittedly looking that way right now with our GD advantage wiped out)

We really need Carlisle to do us a favour and beat Cheltenham. That’s just how desperate things are getting?

I can’t see where the next goal is coming from let alone any points. I can see both Cheltenham and Fleetwood catching us over the next 8 games. They are both picking up points here and there. Fleetwood are at least scoring goals. Monk needs to learn some alchemy in the international break.
Burton are playing Vale at home next weekend which is still going ahead so far. Hopefully a draw but can see Burton edging it. A loss for Vale and I think they are done.

Kind of my point, we're still 4 points clear despite that. Our goal difference has gone crazy which wipes out the 'worth an extra point' comfort blanket but somehow even that isn't so bad that it cant be overhauled.
We definitely need to pick up results, I mean we can't just keep losing and expect to stay up, but I'm optimistic and hopeful. Much less so than last season as it stands though, I was confident bordering on 'I can't wait to say I told you so without being so crass to actually say the words "I told you so"' last year.

Perspective
I felt a need to write something following our poor run of form and the subsequent meltdown on this message board.
Us (U’s!) football fans are emotional beings. I tend not to post after a game, especially a defeat as, like the rest of you, I feel disappointed and annoyed. Like you all, I love our club and it often helps me get a distraction or release from the other things in life (Right now this is especially true for me, I've had a particularly bad few months). I know this is true for many people. So, it's no wonder that emotions are running high.
I've read a few comments about not feeling connected to this team and no real love for the players. This isn't surprising really, if you consider the team before got us promoted, the win at Newcastle, the great escape and the stability of Bonner in charge. This season that's all changed, so it's no wonder that many don't feel connected to our team right now. It's a hard job for them to live up to those previous achievements.
‘The players have downed tools’ - another comment I've read a few times. I really don't think this is the case. It's highly unlikely that the majority of the players aren't playing well out of choice. I don't think there are many footballers period that go on strike. Of course there will always be individual cases of this happening, but a whole team/majority of a team, I very much doubt it. Football (as we know) is a confidence game and large defeats really don't help.
Singling out players like Cousins, Stevens, Rennet for not caring or ‘terrible’ performances. Ok, several players haven't played well, I agree. However, there's a very one sided view when it comes to analysing a game. Point in case, Cousins in the Northampton game. He actually had a good first half, played really well, but there was very little mention of this. The point is, when things aren't going well, us fans tend to focus entirely on the negative and completely ignore any positive at all. When we are full of emotions we certainly aren't rational or objective!
Garry Monk - 3 games in charge! That's all. I know we have had 2 big defeats, but maybe just maybe there are some other factors at play rather than ‘Monk not having a clue’. Factors like Lincoln being on fire at the moment or confidence being low after Harris leaving and a run of defeats. It's hard to change the mentality of a losing run. Garry Monk is a decent manager and has a pretty good record. Just because he hasn't been a manager for 3 years doesn't mean he's totally out of touch. He would have been involved in some way or another in football. In any case, he's not going anywhere and polls about whether he should be sacked or not are really very unhelpful.
Financial - I believe that we have either the 4th or 5th lowest budget in the league for players. I'm sure FAB will be able to give you the actual facts of the matter. The point is, a lot of people complain about our recruitment and that Strang and Bonner made bad appointments. I would like to see someone do better with our budget. Must be a really tough job. Yes, on occasion there are teams with low budgets who punch above their weight and go on to have great seasons but it's few and far between. Most of the time, teams on low budgets struggle. Simple.
Injuries - we've had quite a few key injuries to contend with. It really has been part of the issue for us this season.
Essentially, Cambridge united are in the best position we have been in a long time. It's not going to be smooth sailing as we are in a tough league punching well above out financial status.
I'm not asking you all to be happy about where we are right now with regards to our form and league position. I'm not asking you to like Garry Monk. I'm not asking you to like all our players. I am asking you to get behind our team and cheer us on, because we have a responsibility to put our best foot forward as well as the people who play for and run our club. Going to get pretty annoyed and upset if I start to hear booing of our own team on match day. I don't think it's far away but I'm not a fan of this behaviour as it just doesn't help anything.
Will I be annoyed/upset if we go down? Yes, of course. Will I still be buying my season ticket next season anyway? Yes, undoubtedly, because I'm a Cambridge united supporter.
Regards
James (aka uncle Mike)
