Probably need to post this on a few more threads to make sure people read it because of course you are right, and thankfully we all have a couple of weeks to refocus our efforts, players and fans alike.
I actually feel sorry for Cousins, who is taking an awful lot of flak on here. There was no doubting his effort yesterday, and it was starting to pay off in the second half, before Monk took him off. He's been out injured quite a lot so it's hardly surprising that he hasn't set the world on fire on his return.

A couple of comments : we may well have the 5th smallest budget in the league - but the 10 smallest home average gates show us near the top and 50% more than Stevenage. What revenue streams do we not have access to or are missing out on ? The rest just sound like excuses tbh. www.footballwebpages.co.uk/league-one/attendances

No, I just offered what I think to be realistic perspective. You disagree. Fine, no problem, and while I don't think our current situation is entirely down to financial reasons, I still stick by original post.

Four days after the Reading debacle I’m beginning to feel slightly more optimistic! Hopefully the international break has come at a good time and we can get our house in order. We don’t have to wait that long before the next chapter! Fleetwood v Cheltenham on Friday. Really hoping for a Fleetwood win, because that will take them to 40 games! We must get a result at Barnsley! Don’t know why but I think Bristol Rovers will have a bearing on our destiny! I fancy our chances there, but Rovers won’t want to lose to local rivals Cheltenham!

It’s Burton at home to Port Vale before that.

Stevenage have some cracking commercial deals in place, plus the owner has a history of putting in substantial sums each year.
Stevenage’s commercial and business success has allowed them to build a stronger budget than ours on lower gates.
Gate income is a surprisingly low percentage of total income these days, certainly less than 50% for most clubs.
Which is presumably why we poached the architect of that success to be our CEO…

That's a convoluted way of saying we have the 7th lowest attendance! So why don’t we have the 7th lowest budget ? And why are Stevenage vying for the playoffs on a home gate of 4K ? Sometimes clubs outperform their budget. Like when we got promoted from League Two, or the following season when we finished 14th in League One. It happens in every league every season, but for individual clubs it's a very difficult trend to maintain.

It can't be denied that PB and his American colleagues are ploughing money in, but it is being balanced between the need to improve facilities and keep the squad competitive. Hopefully we see the fruits of the infrastructure improvements (especially the training ground) start to attract better quality players. We cannot afford to sit still in either area.

I would say that they've attempted to do both this season. Regardless of how we're performing currently, I would assume that this year's squad has been more expensive to put together than any for quite a few years. There's now quite a number of senior pros in that dressing room that have played at a higher level. More so than I can think we've had in a long time.
Morrison, Rennett, Andrew, Cousins, Thomas, Kachunga, Taylor, Bonne, Fejiri, and Kaikai are all established players at this level or higher, and will have demanded wages accordingly.
Just goes to show that buying established players guarantees nothing, but I'm not sure a lack of investment in the squad is something you can level at the owners/Board.

He strolls around like he doesn't really care one way or the other. I completely get it that Cambridge means more to me but I can't do anything about the performances on the pitch. He's in central midfield and could do a huge amount to help us stay up. For me, the frustration is that he is a better player than what he is showing.
