I'm surprised there isn't already a tv thread. So yeah, what good tv do you watch? Or have watched? I've just finished watching Band of Brothers after having the box set for about 6 years! I'm now on series 3 of ashes to ashes. It's not quite as good as Life on Mars but still really good! Whitechapel that was on recently was brilliant. I've not seen the first series, and wasn't too fussed with the second about the Krays, but the third was great, didn't want it to end.

In terms of stuff that's actually on TV now, rather than box sets, I'm watching Mad Men, Friday Night Lights and Homeland.

There's not a lot I like at the moment that haven't ended or are in between series which is why I'm hitting the box sets. American Horror Story was good though, looking forward to that coming back.

Currently making my way through Homeland, which is excellent. I'm considering ditching it after this season though, it seems to be very rare that American shows live up to their promise and I'd rather remember it as a good show!

Boardwalk Empire has been excellent so far and I can't wait until the next season.

I've seen every programme mention in this thread so far, I clearly watch too match TV! Enjoyed them all to various degrees.
Currently in the middle of the new series of Mad Men, The Killing (U.S version) and Awake. Recently finished the first series of Borgen which was good.
If I could recommend one show that hasn't been mentioned so far it would be Breaking Bad. Up there with The Wire as my favourite television series. A real masterpiece.

That is a hell of a lot of TV you must watch.
I measure everything against The Wire - I can't see how a better TV series will ever be made. Breaking Bad sounds good from the description on IMDB, rated very highly too. Has that ever been broadcast over here or is it scheduled to be? And has it finished or is another season due?

Yeah I don't watch much 'live' TV anymore so have plenty of time for box sets and downloads of things that are more worthwhile.
A quick google search suggests it has never been aired in the UK, which is crazy. Although it did take The Wire years to get shown here too. I think it's made by AMC so Sky Atlantic will presumably have the rights to it now along with all their other shows. Maybe it'll appear on there soon.
It hasn't finished yet. I'm waiting for the new series to come out. Watched the previous ones on DVD but i'm addicted now so will probably try to download it as soon as it's on in the U.S.

Watch Friday Night Lights and Blue Bloods at the mo, the latter is fairly light but it's something to keep up with. Have really enjoyed Homeland. Also absolutely adore Glee; there isn't any other programme which has me smiling as consistently.
English stuff, EastEnders is habit and think Grandma's House on BBC2 with Simon Amstell has been good again.

I don't have a tele so DVD's are the order of the day. I'm into gritty-real-worldy programmes that try to show things as they are and not how they're made out to be in fantasy TV land.
To that end, Six Feet Under is my all time favourite show, it's absolutely brilliant and I speak highly of it to anyone who listens. I watched American Beauty a few weeks ago, which was written by the chap who created Six Feet Under, which was a breakout movie and massively acclaimed for it's real-real-life and not Hollywood-real-life. As mentioned above The Wire must be added. It's critically acclaimed but not in terms of awards etc, probably for the exact reason that it's gritty-real-worldy.
I'm also five seasons into The Sopranos and two into Dexter (which has the same guy as one of the main Six Feet Under characters).
I'm also into certain sci-fi and finished the last episodes of Battlestar Galactica (the reimagined) this week. I enjoy how it takes space ships and robots and stuff to act as a commentary of human nature's good and ill.
Mad Men and Game of Thrones are on my list of things to start in due course.
The only things I iPlayer is more factual shows, The Apprentice and Louis Theroux.

Major oversight: I also spent the past month watching The World at War. It's absolutely superb: if anyone can recommend a better documentary I'd like to see it.

Factual...The Apprentice?! I do like it though. Love a bit of Louis Theroux.
I enjoy the Unreported World programmes on CH4. I also watch Long Lost Families and watched The Undateables when that was on recently.
This one seems to split opinion, but I do like the documentaries Ross Kemp has done - particularly the series on gangs. People living outside the normal boundaries of society are just very interesting. Stuff like America's Toughest Prisons I always find very watchable.

Agreed, one of the most amazing documentaries ever made. I learn something new everytime I watch them. I would love them to do a new version, with all the new information they have found out since it was made. I've recently been watching 'filthy cities' again on yesterday. Another good documentary that brings the information to life. This is the type of documentary they should be showing in schools to get kids interested.

The third series of the Ricky gervais show is on tv on Tuesday. I've downloaded the ones shown already in America. If you Like the podcasts, you'll love the new shows.

The Game of Thrones is top telly. Takes a lot to get me glued to the TV at a particular time and day but I'm a true follower of Tyrion Lannister. Boxed sets are great but if the series is top quality then my personal preference is looking forward to watching weekly episodes. Easier not to miss any of them these days now I can record them.
Hard to fault anything HBO do. Watched John Adams earlier this year and thought that was excellent. Also, was addicted to Deadwood. Wish they'd not pulled the plug on that. I think it had more mileage in it.
