I dunno, if the sports village is a definite no go with us involved, and we end up as the unwanted uncle at a wedding, maybe they'd rather we were off their books, and therefore be open to offers, for them to progress with their plans and have more chance of success

Grosvenor work on the basis of maximising the value of their assets. They have a longer time horizon than most businesses. That doesn't mean that they never sell. If they think that their long term interests are best served elsewhere they sell and re-invest. Recently they have sold a small part of their central London Estate and purchased in Bermondsey. I work in Bermondsey and I think they have made a mistake. However what I think about their strategy doesn't matter, they will sell if they think they will make more money elsewhere.

Interesting, only a ground floor extension but a good indicator that we are planning to stay at The Abbey?...

Part of the plan for staying at The Abbey was this main stand extension, to go along with the North Stand development.
Guess we're staying, good news!

Most interesting. Why bother going to the expense of any of this, planning application, architects etc, if there is no chance of us remaining at the Abbey? There would not really be a return on investment in the short term with this scheme. Most companies (although all differ in their strategic aims) would put this down as a Capex project (Capital Expenditure) and would look to write off the cost over a period of time in the annual account, the norm being five to ten years, or longer in cases where money has been borrowed. I wouldn't have thought we'd want to take an old capex project to a new stadium would we?

I'm not sure I'd put such a positive spin on this. It's just an indication that the club thinks that Plan A (a new stadium) has definitely failed.
I wouldn't say this news makes it anymore likely that Plan B (sporting village and houses in Trumpington funding redevelopment of the Abbey) is any more likely either.
It may just mean we're stuck with Plan C - back to square one - staying at the abbey as tenants paying large amounts of rent with no prospect of major improvements to the facilities.

A planning application costs a few hundred quid and doesn't mean it is going to be built, just an option. This may just be a way to increase revenue whilst at the abbey. My opinion is that it doesn't indicate anything but wanting to increase revenue.

Totally agree - this is just a short-term measure to take advantage of an increased take-up of the already oversubscribed pre-match catering etc at the Abbey.

We might just get promoted again next season....who knows....so it's good to have planning permission in place for any eventuality and much needed space.

The club are getting quotes for the building work, my guess is they do intend to go ahead with this, wait and see I suppose.

Just got back from a few days away, recharging the batteries.
Great news and yes we will be going ahead with these extensions which will add more revenue to
our daily and football income. These rooms will nearly double in size and be most welcome.
