The selectors are about as good as our recruitment department!
You need to fight fire with fire and not powder puff medium pace like Jake Ball. Plunkett should have gone in the first place and even more so when Stokes was left out. Need to knock them down when you have them on the ropes and win the key moments.

Issues:
Stokes, obviously. Bairstow been up to no good next? Root's chronically poor conversion 50/100 rates. Cook - I pray the form v class cliche is right in his case. One ton in 2017. And as Daniel implies above, don't we have a genuine fast bowler in this 60m+ population of ours? Day/night test next. No swing there then and Moeen's spinning finger is screwed. And Woakes is woefully out of touch. Apart from that lot it's all tip top down under.

Woods is out there with the Lions squad. Wouldn't be surprised if he's called up.
Agree with the general points but there was a positive inasmuch as Vince, Stonehouse & Malan seemed ok - relatively anyway. Need the stronger squad members to stand up - especially Cook and Ali.
To beat them in their yard pretty much everyone has to be at their best. Still not sure it'll be enough if the tail keep getting bombed out - and 90mph + deliveries ain't easy to face!
As for tonight I'm not sure what to hope for - maybe a few wickets to show some fight if the best we can hope for
Onwards to Adelaide.

Hmmm, wasn't expecting a 10 wicket humiliation. Looked a better test than that. Ah well, maybe a 4-1 win will have to do now.

Can someone help me out here? It seems that Stokes has been given permission to play cricket as he has gone off to New Zealand. If that is the case, why the feck is he not heading out to the Ashes?

The key thing here is nobody in high command at the Avon & Somerset police like cricket, obviously!

To be honest, Stokes should be nowhere near the team, he is a very poor role model for kids who idolise the stars of world sport and a disgraceful ambassador for the England team.
It is obvious from the video footage that he is bang to rights, he should take what is coming to him and accept his punishment. I'm surprised he has been allowed to travel to the other side of the world with this still to be resolved.

What, by continually punching someone despite your mates urging you to stop? As for the 'head butt' incident, did you see the Aussie press conference where Steve Smith could barely speak he was laughing so much at the ridiculousness of the whole story?

I'm not thinking about the "face painted arseholes" as you so eloquently describe them, it's the young budding cricket fans who hero worship players like him - no kind of example to set them. I do wish the authorities would hurry up and get this resolved though, everyone needs closure on this sorry story.

Lack of pace bowling options hurting England again today. Wrong selections at the start of tour beginning to bite.
