In my opinion more important than any football match. Absolutely up there in the pantheon of world sport.

Not a bad start to the series so far. Beats watching. CUFC at the moment.

They will likely think themselves as they have root , but feel it's about par. Think Moeen could be key figure. If he can stick arond tomorrow through new ball , has capacity to quickly add runs. He Probably can't wait to bowl either.

Thought Tuffers made a great point that it could actually be good that it is the '2nd string' that have contributed today: the quicker we are (and opponents perceive us) less reliant on Cook and Root the better!
I'd have the Aussies very slightly in front, simply because we haven't yet got the runs on the board and I don't think it will continue to spin - it's not a wearing pitch that's for sure, and seems the spin today was mostly due to moisture that will dry out.
But a much better day than I was fearing and if Malan, Ali, Bairstow & Woakes can get us well over 300, preferably 350+ we'll have a good shot at leaving Brisbane with a result of sorts - and that could be a momentum change for the series.
Lots of uncertainty but a good day overall I'd say.

Usual England collapse, shame. If somebody finds Bairstow's brain can you let him know? This pitch is hard going. To think England got 517-1 seven years ago. Nicely set up now, well in to the last session of day two. I guess it's probably all about their skipper now.

Similarly poised as after day one really: Aussies slightly ahead but not a lot in it. We need to get rid of Marsh & Smith, especially Smith, asap or could be looking at a deficit: which would bring some pressure for the 2nd innings.
A little worried that Anderson after the day seemed to be struggling for a way to dislodge Smith! The Aussies certainly worked out a way to get through our lower order in the morning.
Maybe the pitch will be the decisive factor, showing no signs of speeding up, and thus meaning slow run rate? But if Lyon still spins it and they're ahead I can see a twitchy 2nd innings on our part.

What a test match. You can shove any other form of cricket up your arse!
Poor old Cook. Never known the Barmy Army so quiet. Lightweights...

Hopefully Root and Co will step up to the mark tomorrow and build a healthy lead for you boys. Aussies won’t find it easy batting last. Shaping up for a classic.
In other news, India are bullying Sri Lanka again-bit dull really.

Root's started well. Can he extinguish those memories of earlier today at the Abbey? No, just seen a Utd fan in last season's yellow shirt amongst the Barmy Army!

Well played Australia (through gritted teeth). For all his plonker-ness Vaughan was a good captain and is spot on when he talks about winning key moments: and the Aussies have down that, through Smith, their bowlers and the bizarre withdrawing of Broad and Anderson from the attack after 3 overs when they were on a roll.
Take notes boys. When things in balance, keep the pedal down!
