I find it slightly amusing that anyone can think XR and their plans next week amount to no more than:
”A) force people to not use their car in Cambridge for one day or find alternative arrangements”

So Extinction Rebellion are allowed to block main roads in Cambridge for as long as they like, but when we marched to the Abbey when we dropped out of the league we had to use all the back roads?

Not sure the level of importance quite compares.

Quite a telling line that.
Believing your cause trumps all others does not give you rights not afforded to others. Same rules for everybody. XR can f*ck right off.
No way Jose. Not a f*cking chance.
Edit: apologies, not an attack on you personally Andrew.

I agree generally, but they're both my cause and one is quite clearly IS less important than the other (one affects about 3500 people, the other is a global crises)
Whether XR are right or wrong to protest there is no comparison to be had in the level of importance for me and it's very easy to see how they might be treated differently...even separated by 15 years.

I find it slightly amusing that out of the options: A) force people to not use their car in Cambridge for one day or find alternative arrangements B) force everyone in the country to only have one child. Option A is the one causing more outrage! Point of principle. XR want to stop climate change. The best way to do that is to limit populations by only allowing 1 child. Am not advocating that but surely if that has the biggest effect then why not. Why are they not supporting that rather than the car user. Of course, most of these twats do have cars including someone I know who drove 100 miles to see a band over the weekend!!! I think we should get the identities of these clowns and block their roads and see how they like it, not being able to go out or get to work!!

Andrew Alienating the population is not going to get public support and it’s that which will get change. People changing habits will then change policy and companies. What they are the doing is the opposite.

It can be counterproductive for sure, and once you've grabbed sombodies attention it's best to have another trick up your sleeve otherwise you risk banging a drum people become bored with.
I don't really see it as alienating though. With Brexit I could understand how the perception of a 'thick leavers' rhetoric from the left would alienate floaters but in this instance it's not about opinion or debate is it? Nobody should feel alienated by such an important issue for me, that it might disrupt my day by half an hour hardly seems to matter.

The fact that many people seem to be confusing their view on XR's tactics with their view on climate change is frankly quite bizarre.

So Extinction Rebellion are allowed to block main roads in Cambridge for as long as they like, but when we marched to the Abbey when we dropped out of the league we had to use all the back roads? During that march some people decided to sit down blocking Newmarket Road off. Within seconds the police were over dragging two of them up, and telling everyone else they would get the same if they didn't get off the road. Shame these same policepeople don't do the same to XR.

Andrew Maybe it would if you or a close relative was an elderly person for whom their 3 daily visits from caters was essential. Or if you or a close relative needed a fire engine or ambulance. Even a 5 minute delay could be the difference between life and death. I would love to know where these people live so I could block their driveway and make them late for work or miss important things for them. Am sure they would not be so understanding if they missed a flight or a concert.

And a photo on Cambridge live site of an ambulance having to turn around at a roadblock. So they are being affected and people’s lives are being out at risk. That is being a twit of the highest order and sums up the idiots involved and their supporters.

That is being a 'nice person' of the highest order and sums up the idiots involved and their supporters. You can't tell for sure what's going on from that still photo but isn't good from a PR perspective. Certainly not conclusive evidence though of anything other than showing an ambulance (with no indications of sirens) making a turn in the road. I'm sure the photo-journalist would have made more of it if there was more to it than that. www.cambridge-news.co.uk/incoming/article17757287.ece/ALTERNATES/s510b/2_WhatsApp-Image-2020-02-16-at-105103-AMjpeg.jpg
