Cheap option selected - at a point where the gloss was starting to wear off and the team were slowly going back to their hopeless performances. Shows the level of ambition this club really has. Disappointed.

I didn't realise the Board took that much notice of me.
I'll be honest.....I'm not happy about this but at least the planning can start for next season which is vital.
Hopefully he will prove me wrong.

Wish him the best, feel it's a case of the alternatives either being uninspiring or not interested rather than him being the number one choice. Hope he can do a Jez role and step aside should a great candidate become available.

Oh dear. Groundhog Day as with Dunne, or should I say Groundhog season.
At least it'll be less costly to send him back to the youth set up next March when we're in exactly the same position as the last three seasons...

The risk of having a caretaker for a long time is that if they win a couple games or get the support of the players then it becomes hard not to appoint them full time. I want to see Bonner do well and obviously want us to succeed so I'll give him my support, but I can't help but see the similarities to Joe Dunne's appointment.
Paul Barry has said we'll have a bigger playing budget next season. Let's hope the improved budget isn't wasted like it was under Derry.

Good to get our usual share of negative reaction. I am sure that Paul Barry would be happy to sell the club to any one of you, then you could make your own appointment.

While it's tempting and understandable to cast this as Dunne mk II there are a few things that make the situation this time around quite different – but I think the two crucial ones are the very public and repeated statements that the playing budget is going to be upped for next season and that the club (and most importantly, the transfer committee, Bonner included) also has the experience of the failed approach taken towards the squad that summer under Dunne.
There are many other valid questions that will be asked over this appointment but really we're not going to know any of the answers until we start seeing transfer dealings, not just in terms of the calibre of player we're attracting & retaining but also to start understanding what kind of squad and style of football Bonner really wants to be playing.

Terrible decision, be no surprise if he's gone within 12 months after another dire summer of recruitment, and we have to start over yet again.

Unanimous choice has a ring of turkey’s voting for Christmas about it.
The club always had to go through this process of appointing him at some point, otherwise it would have always been the group underneath the manager and who would want to slot into that environment?
Go ahead and succeed Bonz, but this is the last chance saloon for all the non playing side of the club.

Go ahead and succeed Bonz, but this is the last chance saloon for all the non playing side of the club. Yeah, I think this is the case too. Our stall has certainly been set out in terms of what we're expecting, and barriers (& therefore, excuses) have been acknowledged and theoretically removed in order to achieve it (increased budget, a manger that will be having a say over his assistant, a lot of players out of contract). If we can't show genuine progress under this system now, we never will.

The worry as others have said is that its Groundhog day as with Joe Dunne from 2 years ago and we start offering contract extensions to most of the squad.
