Cricket isn't really my thing these days, but we should really be beating Afghanistan, shouldn't we? Kentish A new low for me, that wasn't just a defeat, it was embarrassing. World champions, with an aspiration of retaining their Trophy? Too much muddled thinking for me and reliance on the tried and tested. We gave some youngsters a chance in the series against New Zealand, during which they played well, but none have been given an opportunity in this series. It seems, like many international teams, it is hard to get dropped, but even harder to get in! I guess the one exception to that rule would be Jason Roy, but with the injury doubts hanging over him, understandable why Brook was given his place. It will be interesting to see the selection for the next match, changes must be made if we have any chance of staying alive in the competition, which is damning after just 3 matches.

Oh dear!
I think the biggest ever defeat in ODI's.
1 win in 4. We've somehow become a not very good one day team.
Still a theoretical chance but I wouldn't be putting much money on it. Who's done well? Topley's looked good. Malan had a great innings. Brook did decently but in a losing cause. anyone elese? At all?

It’s the end of the road for a lot of these guys unfortunately and this squad who in the main were World Cup winners. Feel we were a bit arrogant about preparation for this tournament in the amount of warm ups we played- why play T20’s against NZ for instance. Squad taken to Indian conditions seemed wrong as well. Not convinced by Buttler as a captain in 50 overs and his own game is suffering. Would like to see us rebuild with a younger squad after the tournament

If Afghanistan was an appalling result, this was arguably more embarrassing. Team selection looked odd, our strength has been our all rounders and long batting tail; today Rashid batted at 8, probably as high as he has batted in many years for England. Arguably bringing Stokes back in now he is fit was the right call, you wouldn't leave him out of a match having persuaded him to give it a last go, but he looked like a man who hadn't played cricket for weeks, which of course he was No warm up for him due to injury after his century against NZ 5 weeks ago. Winning the toss and choosing to have a torrid 3 1/2 hours in the hottest of days was (with hindsight perhaps) a huge mistake, especially with a depleted bowling attack.
You can look at a lot of that squad and see them as at their final World Cup. Age is not on the side of many of them:
Malan 36, Bairstow 34, Root 32, Stokes 32, Ali 36, Willey 33, Woakes 34, Buttler 33, Wood 33, Rashid 35. While some may still be around for the next WC, the majority will be gone I think, and based on performances so far, that's about right.
I think the warm up tournament against NZ saw some younger talent being tried, which may start to become the nucleus of the next team. My worry is how quickly will they be ready to challenge the big teams, a shame some more of them weren't blooded in this competition - they could hardly have done much worse today.

I bet they wish they could home! 3 more potential humblings to receive yet based on recent performances.

Poor display and out fought by Sri Lanka today. They look so dis-interested and like they have given up. End of and Era for most of them now. Buttler needs to step down and concentrate on his own form which has nose dived since captain. He used to do what Klassen & Maxwell have done this week but not anymore. Under prepared for the tournament and slightly arrogant in thinking they could turn up and beat teams. I think Eion Morgan got out at the right time. And whose idea was it too hand out multi year contracts in the middle of the tournament? Stuck with many of them for another 12 months at least! Notice that all the younger players got left out today as well. Only India on Sunday to come now...

It smells like there is a fractured camp there somehow. Very bullish before the tournament about what they planned to do, even before today, Buttler was bigging up the team, 'The talking has been done, we need to go out there and show what we are about'. Well that lasted about 6 overs until the first wicket, then it all crumbled.
Time for a change of the guard, too many over 30s in that group, who almost seem to be guaranteed their place in the team. There also needs to be a little more emphasis on the longer forms of the game at County level, rather than the 'crowd-pleasing' 20/20 and 100 tournaments. It seems we have forgotten how to play a full one-day match, not surprising when you see how little the England players have actually played 50 over cricket in the past 18 months; woefully underprepared. We were even arrogant enough to send a team of reserves to play the 50 over series in Ireland ahead of this tournament. What a great warm-up that would have been to get some back into form.

Apparently today was the first time England had fielded a whole first 11 in an ODI that were over 30

A great Test match happening right now, a shame that hardly anyone can watch even the highlights on TV, let alone live.

Wonderful win. The ball will be rolling along the floor for the next games no doubt.

One of Englands greatest wins. Great day for Test Cricket with the West Indies beating Australia on their own patch for the first time since 97. Still and always will be the best format.

All gone a bit wrong since the high of the first test. Not sure if the rule of - playing against 10 men ain’t as easy as it looks - applies in Cricket! Root century in this 2nd inns would be a timely boost going forward.
*Edit That aged well.
