I can't really remember any significant failings in Potters game - a decent all-round Conference keeper who was also very entertaining.

In similar vein to Lionel Perez..Danny Potter was massively overrated during his time here I used to like you, the fact it took us about 10 years to replace him tells you his value to the team

He definitely wasn’t bad for the level, but I think he made more mistakes than people let themselves remember and had weaknesses that opposition definitely exposed. His coming out for crosses used to be shocking!
I remember steve evans coming out highlighting his flaws when they beat us.
Like I say, he wasn’t bad and I loved him as a character but do believe he wasn’t anywhere near the level people make out he was and refusant of his flaws

I can't believe it's 13+ years since I watched him nod the wink to the ball boy to slow down when collecting the ball so as to run down the clock, then giving him a big thumbs up and huge grin when he did it next time without prompting.

That Samir Carruthers is a naturally more gifted player than Wes Hoolahan, and would have made a great player manager if only we had given him the chance.
That Dimi is our all time best goalkeeper.

A had such high hopes for Stevland Angus, back when I thought a good defender was someone who could run really fast and dive into a tackle to put the ball out for a throw, and before I realised no defender should be that far out of position that often.

That we'd have got Wrexham at home in the Cup if we'd beaten Blackburn. Morning Russ.

That Strang's done a fairly decent job in his role as director of football.
Although doesn't really fit the criteria of this thread because most of the evidence and my rational brain... also suggests he has.

Also have absolutely no idea why Tunbridge attracts the opprobrium he does from some quarters.

That Strang's done a fairly decent job in his role as director of football. Although doesn't really fit the criteria of this thread because most of the evidence and my rational brain... also suggests he has. Was having this argument last night 30% of the time he does an exceptional job 50% of the time he does his job adequately 20% of the time he does a terrible job (Fag packet maths but you get the jist) The nature of football is we only care about what's happening now and not what he did 10 years ago which I think is fair to an extent (not quite the overreaction from some) Is he in the Bonner position of "taken us as far as he can?" Maybe, maybe not. That's up to the board but as his legacy goes he's a club legend His jobs one we don't see anything from and maybe that's a problem in the modern day, the occasional update throughout the window even if its "we are being outbid, we havent got anyone" shows people whats happening and what we are doing instead of silence As for the taken us as far as he can, let's see what this window brings because we are 1/3rd of the way through and are currently worse off then when we started. We need 3/4 through the door and are going to run out of time quicker than we thought (but i'm sure he knows that)

Yeah, broadly agree with most of that. I guess when we do badly we tend to look deeper for how/why that's the case, and when we do well the manager tends to get credit.
I suspect there's a bit of people not understanding the dof role or thinking it's unnecessary, too.
