Similar with Eduardo Hówe, apart from the Argie part, doesn't feel the time for him.
Potter seems more sensible but I'm not sure how that would go down at large.

I can see the FA appointing from within and continue this approach into the future of growing their own managers.
It’s cheaper and all the England teams from senior through all the age groups will play a similar style. I don’t follow the England team/FA closely enough to know about Lee Carsley but if he’s had success with different age groups, then why not. I guess he doesn’t come with any previous club baggage either.

the big question is, if it is Carsley and we win the world cup, would that count as the first world cup winning manager to not be from the country they won with? Born in England but represented Ireland

Potter seems more sensible but I'm not sure how that would go down at large. Southgate wasn’t universally welcomed when appointed it must be said, including by me. But I think that all gets forgotten pretty quickly once tournaments start. It will have a different dynamic about it, because Russia 2018 felt like a bit of a free hit, there was zero expectation and suddenly we’re winning penalty shootouts and quarter finals. Whereas the new man, assuming there is one, will be expected to reach semis and finals from the off. But I think people will look past personality if results are good.

Born in England but represented Ireland Would depend how you want to define the 'where is he from?' category. Yes, he represented the Republic of Ireland at international level but his nationality is British (born in Birmingham).

I liked Carsley as a player, so I hope it's not him. It's easier when England managers are sponges, so Mourinho please!

Not Howe please, he's welded to Jason Tindall, a sponge of Evans proportions (not in size though!)

Go all out for Klopp. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.

I appreciate your Mourinho comment us tongue in cheek (or at least, it appears that way!), but a serious observation… isn’t Mourinho the absolute anti-Southgate as a person, yet with oddly similar playing styles. Jose is a winner, a foreigner, it’s-all-about-me, hates the media, adored by his own fans, hated by everyone else. Southgate is a nearly man, English, team player, welcomes the media, disliked by too many of his own fans and respected by everyone else.

I'm a foreigner and don't like or support the England team and I don't like Mourinho, so it was definitely flippant.

Probably maybe Carsley for me. I don't think it'll be a very popular appointment on the social media feeds but he's already successfully brought it home for the Under 21's and I feel like that puts him in the conversation. Spain promoted de la Fuente so if it's good enough for them.
