I think it will be Carsley for the Nations League and, if he does well, he'll get the job full time. I hope so. I think you are spot on with that thought.

Problem is the FA wanted Southgate to stay, if they are that blinkered can they be trusted to get the new appointment right? Be interesting to see who wants Southgate as their manager if that's the path he chooses. Would the pro-Southgaters want him in at their club?

Option 7 in the poll can now be removed! I also think there should be an option for 'other candidate' also with the option to then name your choice.

Would the pro-Southgaters want him in at their club? No, but most pro-Southgaters understand that club management and international management are very different. What part of the Gareth Southgate era of England’s football history did you not like? The record goals scored at three separate international tournaments? The record number of clean sheets? The record record number of knockout wins? The first ever Euro final? The first World Cup semi-final for 28 years? The first final on foreign soil? The first penalty shootout win over 20 years?

Not a comment on any poster here but I often wonder how much Southgates wokery wound up some of more flag shagging Union Jack offs among the England fan base.

Yes I would definitely take it! (After Gaz gets a fair go)

Andrew In this particular tournament, I think it was the frustration of having what looked initially as the best squad man for man but not being able to get them firing anywhere near to their potential. This is partly on the players but also the management. As mentioned before, he hasn't created a particular fixed identity on how we play & is reactive so constantly changing the structure hasn't achieved the final goal. The players have looked a bit lost & confused sometimes in play & we've literally scraped into the final with some individual brilliance but that can only last so long against the elite teams. Having said all of that, we could have still ended winning the game in ET or pens even with our flat performance such is tournament knockout football & the current inquests would not be happening to the same degree

Everyone that voted Southgate in the poll should apologise in this thread, even Southgate doesn't agree with you

Cambridge games are a degree more entertaining than England's tournament was pre semis. I also expect different things from a team with Paul Digby and Jordan Cousins in midfield to a team with Jude Bellingham and the rest of our midfield talent

The fact that we did all that despite him. Outdone tactically by Croatia, Italy AND Spain, playing out of form players. An Arteta, Pep or Klopp wins the tournament
