Another Championship or ambitious L1 club is going to get a very good manager.
Could see the Hull or QPR jobs being vacant fairly soon

Mark Robins of Coventry sacked! Unless something's happened behind the scenes that seems mad. Work with a lot of Cov fans. Been on the cards since start of last season apparently, despite good cup run. Spent a lot of money since making the play off final vs luton and expected a better return

Podcasts, EFL Twitter accounts and Coventry fans on Twitter all seem baffled by the decision.

Frank Lampard clear favourite to be the next Coventry manager. Rooney/Birmingham all over again.

Lampard is not a Coventry man. They would be better off keeping Mark Robins.

Surprised at this if it happens and shows it’s not for money. Will probably make them hard to beat as well

There's a very limited pool of "names" at the minute, and they're a project club with low expectations this season & realistic/achievable ones longer term, who have been drifting for years. Not sure what other sort of job Ainsworth would actually get at this level – no one in the Championship will touch him & most of the clubs with bigger ambitions at this level would find his style a tough sell to the fanbase.

A Project club like ours ? Some said he wouldn’t come here for monetary reasons that’s all. I don’t think a Gareth Ainsworth side would capitulate like Monks did on Saturday IMO

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55776576 Exactly like ours, yeah. Rowett was the budgetary one wasn't it? My understanding was we interviewed Ainsworth & weren't enamoured with him. I'm really intrigued to see if Ainsworth's capable of reproducing anything like what he managed at Wycombe elsewhere. I do get a strange feeling of it all just coming together there & him being the right person in the right place at the right time. The game's changed a lot even since they were in the Championship. You do see examples of people having remarkable success over a long period at one club but then really struggling to achieve anything remotely similar elsewhere: Tisdale, Westley, arguably Karl Robinson (although he did have a good spell at Oxford)... Moyes' career became incredibly peripatetic after Everton until he eventually found a home at West Ham. Don't know if Ainsworth falls into the same category but I have a funny feeling that, after the waning of the aura he had at Wycombe it's something he might never manage to recapture.

Yeah, Rowett needed a holiday to get over the shock at what we were offering. Ainsworth was interested but we felt he wasn’t the right fit for us.

Ainsworth makes my skin itch. Must admit I'd be much happier to sack Monk knowing that Ainsworth is already employed.

Add Nathan Jones to that list? I do agree that he could just be one of those managers who was just right for the club at a moment in time and like Beck, will find it hard anywhere else? But I can't asee why the club were not being enamoured with him - his track record at Wycombe speaks for itself. Interview well and not have that record, I know who I would go for!
