www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55776576 Exactly like ours, yeah. Rowett was the budgetary one wasn't it? My understanding was we interviewed Ainsworth & weren't enamoured with him. I'm really intrigued to see if Ainsworth's capable of reproducing anything like what he managed at Wycombe elsewhere. I do get a strange feeling of it all just coming together there & him being the right person in the right place at the right time. The game's changed a lot even since they were in the Championship. You do see examples of people having remarkable success over a long period at one club but then really struggling to achieve anything remotely similar elsewhere: Tisdale, Westley, arguably Karl Robinson (although he did have a good spell at Oxford)... Moyes' career became incredibly peripatetic after Everton until he eventually found a home at West Ham. Don't know if Ainsworth falls into the same category but I have a funny feeling that, after the waning of the aura he had at Wycombe it's something he might never manage to recapture. Add Nathan Jones to that list? I do agree that he could just be one of those managers who was just right for the club at a moment in time and like Beck, will find it hard anywhere else? But I can't asee why the club were not being enamoured with him - his track record at Wycombe speaks for itself. Interview well and not have that record, I know who I would go for! His track record for achievements at Wycombe was outstanding, definitely punched above their weight considering their resources. Style of play might not be to everyone's liking, but you can't argue he wasn't successful.

His track record is great (at this level) and his style of football isn't something we can afford to be snobby about - I know we wanted to transition into a more pleasing to the eye style at the time but if that was the issue with his interview it doesn't make sense to interview him in the first place.
He's...I don't like him but I'd have him over Monk if I'm honest with myself.

He was a bit of hero for us back in the day. Well for a day. Headed a very late winner on his debut for us v Bristol C at the Abbey from a corner from another teenager John Fowler (remember him) after Andy Cole had made it 1-1. Loads out that day too so not much changes. Rowett was in the side that day as well. And Raynor!

Shrewsbury appoint Ainsworth. That will certainly make them harder to beat once he gets working with them. Always thought he could have done the job here but appreciate he divides opinion.

Yes, I think their chances of avoiding the drop have gone up considerably with him in charge. Not pretty on the eye but he gets the best out of what he’s got.

Shrewsbury appoint Ainsworth. Would have been my choice when Monk leaves, I think he will keep them up and then turn them into a comfortable mid table side next season. Will make our game with them next month a lot more challenging and could well spell the end for monk given that’s the kindest league fixture on paper until January. Disappointing to hear above that we interviewed him and went for monk instead, perhaps the assistant manager position was an issue (they appointed his assistant manager as well).

I think today's news is bad news for us, personally.
Shrewsbury and Burton are the only two sides who were worse than us last season and seem to be worse than us this season, meaning they're pretty f**ked.
Ainsworth coming in gives Shrewsbury a real chance. Hopefully it's the QPR Ainsworth rather than the Wycombe Ainsworth...

Ainsworth seems like a vibes man and an excellent motivator of players to me, but one who needs players who buy into his brand of cringe Wernham Hogg culture.
Not for me particularly, I want a bit more than to learn the Haka from my manager, and I suspect part of the reason why he failed at QPR (apart from them being a train wreck) was that that sort of nonsense doesn't work with footballers with a delusion of competence either, but a group of hairy arsed brick layers like the Shrewsbury squad? Yeah, probably. Same with our lot too I'd imagine, I wonder how galling it is to the board that they appointed someone to play proper football only to end up playing hoof ball badly.
