Familiar pattern for India this series. Excellent bowling only to be let down by the chumps coming in to bat later today. Just watch.....

I love how our glasses are half empty, whichever side we are supporting! Great start yesterday until Cookie was out, then the familiar collapse. Now it's your turn to await the disappointment. It's the expectation and hope that kills you!

Funny ol game this cricket. Cant see why they all dont play proper so's we know the result before they play.

Another great day’s test cricket. Off there today so looking forward to that. As I’ve said before if India had three to four batsmen this series would be so much closer. But the stats don’t lie, in 25 years’ time we’ll look in Wisden and it will say 4-1. And, but it will never happen, India need a new skipper, Kohli is an absolute waste of space in that department. For all that he adds as arguably the word’s best batsman, India lose so much with his lack of tactical nous and subtlety. Shastri must pull his hair out.
And by the way I’m still refusing to use the ‘gender friendly’ term of ‘batter.’ Until they change the fielding position to ‘third person’.....🏏

Cook does it. What a player to pull that off after his poor series. Fitting end.

Just watched some highlights, big respect to the Indian players after Cook got out.

I still think he's gone too early - he should have withdrawn from the winter tours, then re-evaluated for the Ashes series next summer. That's 10 months rest from the goldfish bowl of international cricket, recharge the batteries and score plenty of runs in county cricket. I would wager he will still be our best opening batsman this time next year.

Cant see him changing his mind either.

I think he could go on and is likely to be the best option to open the batting for another year or two, but I’m glad he looks set to go out on his own terms and still able to perform. Too many sportsmen stagger on too long and risk being remembered for that instead of the great things they have done.
That said it still feels hasty. Ideally he could have been given the winter off to spend time with his family, new baby etc. See how his form goes in the championship in the spring, and potentially have one last hurrah against the Aussies. Ultimately though I hope and think this will be it. Chances are he wouldn’t get another chance to bow out feeling on top of the world on the back of a great knock and I’d hate to be sat here a year from now, after he’s had a poor Ashes thinking he should have stayed with his original decision.

Thought I'd bump this to praise the 211 run victory in Galle. Change to watch 3 days with England in complete control of a test match!

I’ve just arrived back having watched this in Galle. Saw two U’s flags hung up in the ground and a couple of chaps in United shirts wandering around! Wonderful place to watch cricket.
